Tuesday 17th January – walks ***** Dedham to Flatford – frosty, sunny and cold.

I had to take my damaged windsurf foil over to Colchester so decided to pack a picnic and head over to Dedham fairly early for a walk to make the most of the frosty morning. We had to spend several minutes clearing the windscreen on our van before setting off in wall to wall sunshine with a light breeze making it perfect for walking:) Arriving at Dedham Mill pool at 9.45 I put on my snow boots while Mag very wisely went for her wellies and because loads of the low lying fields surrounding the River Stour were flooded Mag stayed dry while I got two wet feet! It was just lovely as we set off with frost everywhere, much more than in Felixstowe making it perfect for taking pictures. The wooden footbridge has now been replaced but the entrance was flooded so I had to make a small detour but we crossed over and there were now loads of flood water on the fields and well as a large flock of grazing geese:) There was also some ducks and geese on the river which was moving along quite fast! It was very quiet too just the odd dog walker as we reached Flatford stopping for a quick selfie before continuing to the sluice past the mill near Willy Lotts Cottage. There was a sign directing you inland back to Dedham and decided to try this route as we have never used it before! It was a good path and Dedham Church soon came into view. There were loads of birds flitting about including several friendly Robins:) Reaching Dedham we do a circuit of the large church before heading back with the intention of the mill pool but it was flooded just past the lock so had to turn around. Back at the van we enjoyed our lunch, a top roll with a cuppa soup:) Then it was onto Fluid Lines to show them my foil, bad news there not only is the fuselage slightly bent, my rear wing is also broken, just no idea how it happened? Then home, filling up with another £100 of diesel before making a hot water bottle and a cuppa, top walk, we must try some different places for a walk or bike!
